The therapeutic effect of natural material is related to the chemical compounds it has. In fruits/leaves of phaleria macrocarpa, various chemicals are present such as flavonoid and tannin, both show anticancer activity, as well as other unknown ones presumably supportive for cancer treatment. In this light, a question on the material authenticallity against cancer is worth considering. An in vitro experiment is thus set up with the objective of examining the effect of fruit/leaf extract has on human uterine cervical carcinoma cells (hela cells). Various concentrations:1,5,10,50,100,200 mg/ml of fruit/leaf extract and doksorubisin (positive control):0.5,1,5,10,20,50 mg/ml were evaluated. Observations were made 24 and 48 hour after incubating hela cells in each treatments.The results showed that both fruit/leaves might inhibit the growth of hela cells. Inhibitory concentration (ic50) of fruit extract after 24 hours of incubation is 196.74 mg/ml, leaf extract is 816.45 mg/ml. The corresponding value for doksorubisin is < 1 mg/ml. Ic50 after 48 hours of incubation were 114.34,512.14 mg/ml for fruit and leaf extract, and doksorubisin < 0.5 mg/ml. Inhibitory potential of fruits are much higher, approximately four times than that of leaves. The effect might be associated to the active compounds both material contained.Phaleria macrocarpa itself is wellknown as medicine for chronical diseases such as cancer, hypertension, hepatitis, rheumatism, diabetes mellitus, and gout
